At the age of 7, Barry was an owner surrender. After his short racing career, as with the majority of racing greyhounds he went into adoption.
Barry's owners retired and decided they wanted to travel and would no longer have time for poor Barry. They surrendered Barry back to the greyhound group SAGA, which was under a totally new and inexperienced board of directors who apparently didn't know too much about the breed and their idiosyncrasies.
Barry was bewildered and stressed about having lost his home.
The adoption groups plan was kenneling or if no arrangements could be found, killing him. They called it "euthanasia" however TLP doesn't believe killing a perfectly healthy dog is referred to as euthanasia. We believe dogs who can no longer have quality of life due to age or are very sick get euthanized.
The people in the home that Barry was in were afraid of him so they kept him crated which he was not used to at all. This caused him more anxiety.
They wanted him out.
A warm, loving experienced greyhound owner stepped up to take Barry. She even offered to adopt Barry.
This still wasn't good enough for the group, they still wanted Barry dead and showed up at this fosters house to take Barry to have him killed however, foster mom would not let Barry go.
We took Barry into the greyhound witness protection plan. He was placed with an experienced greyhound owner and a "grey sister",
Day by day Barry came out of his shell and started to trust again.
We are thrilled to report that we get GREYT updates often. He looks happy and loved, finally.
