Buddy

All stories get to us but Buddy’s story really tugged at our heartstrings. Because of the huge amount of media we received about Luna, we received a call from Buddy’s old owner. Buddy, a 9 year old Golden Retriever, had been in a CT pound for 10 months. Buddy was not allowed any visitors, from his owner, or anyone else as he was in quarantine the entire time.

Buddy had a history of escaping from his yard and getting off leash because he was never securely held by his owner. Buddy loved to swim and each time he escaped he ran to the CT beaches right by his house to play and swim. Unfortunately, on three occasions he ended up in scuffles with other dogs. Though there was never any injury and even the ACO acknowledged and testified that Buddy was no danger to people, his owners inability and unwillingness to keep him secured put him on death row.

Prior to The Lexus Project, the owner and her attorney appealed the decision to execute him and lost. That is when they turned to The Lexus Project.

Once again, the law firm of Saxe, Doernberger and Vita stepped up and allowed one of their attorneys, Ashley R. Adams to obtain a court order. We got the court to bar his execution and began negotiating with the town. After a number of false starts, with the help of the Judge, an agreement was reached.

After 11 months in quarantine, Buddy bounded from the pound and into our van wearing the biggest smile we ever saw. Buddy will be living in Florida, however he took a stop along the way to relax as the pampered guest of David Wolf, and the wonderful people at NGAP (National Greyhound Adoption Program). Buddy is enjoying soft couches, playing ball, tug of war and being loved on.

Special thanks to David Wolf,President and founder of NGAP for his generosity. Buddy has had all his blood work and grooming needs taken care of while on vacation in their beautiful facility.
