Duke

Ohio

Carissa went to work like any other day, dropped her baby at daycare and left Duke, her beloved dog in the house. When she came home to an empty house, her biggest fear became a reality. There was a note from ACO saying they had her dog. The animal control states Duke bit an alleged intruder while she was at work. The ‘victim’ claims that the dog was outside her fenced yard and attacked him; Duke is not an outside dog and does not stay outside unless he is with family.

In the courts, roles have been essentially reversed: The Lucas County Dog Warden were pressing charges against Carissa, treating her as the criminal. Because they were charging Carissa we were not able to get involved until she retained local counsel for herself. At that time, we called upon our local counsel to assist with Dukes case. Our counsel worked together with Carissa's attorney and in the end, the charges were dropped.
